Claflin have not always wanted to be an actor. Growing up in Norwich, he wanted to be a footballer. He played at city and county level, as well as in school and Sunday league teams. It was his life. However, when he broke his ankle at 16, a career in football began to seem less and less likely. He needed to find something else. His mum had seen him in a school production and suggested that he take up drama.

When Claflin turned 24, he made his acting debut in a big way starring on two television series in the same year, “The Pillars of the Earth” and “Any Human Heart”.

In 2010, Claflin was cast as Phillip Swift in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series titled “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”.

In 2012, Claflin was casted for the blockbuster film, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” The movie was shown in cinemas a week ago and it is his biggest role yet playing Finnick Odair in the said film.
